St. Louis Post Dispatch endorses Danny Stover (IL-19)!!

"In the Illinois 19th, which takes in a bright red swath of Illinois from Springfield southward, Rep. John Shimkus, 48, was cruising toward a sixth term until his name popped up in the investigation of the scandal surrounding former Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla. As head of the House Page Board, Mr. Shimkus confronted Mr. Foley in the fall of 2005 over one relatively innocuous e-mail to a former page. Mr. Shimkus says he had no inkling that Mr. Foley's problems went deeper. "There's a lot of guilt," he said, adding "I'm pretty clueless on people's private lives."

I spent this evening with my Congressional candidate, Danny Stover , along with my Senator, Dick Durbin, my Governor, Rod Blagoevich and my state Treasurer candidate Alexi Giannoulias at the Madison County Democrats JFK Dinner at the Collinsville (Rep. Shimkus' hometown) Convention Center.

The 500+ enthusistic attendees were treated to many motivational speeches. I was surrounded by 17 friends, all dedicated members of Downstate Democrats for Change, who have been working hard for Stover's campaign since April.

Tomorrow we begin our 2nd weekend of major canvassing in Madison County (21% of District 19's population). Last weekend we reached over 5400 homes with our small army of volunteers.

Because she just found out the results of a recent poll conducted in Madison County (@25% of District 19's population) .... Stover 43%, Shimkus 43% and 11% undecided! This poll was taken before over 5400 packets of pro Stover/anti Shimkus literature were distributed on Sat. Oct 14th (2500 more going out on Sun. Oct. 15th) in Edwardsville (County seat), Glen Carbon and Troy. Also before Danny Stover's new commercial, slamming Shimkus, begins airing on cable TV. Come to Springfield this Sunday and meet IL-19 candidate Danny Stover who has been on a media roller coaster ride (at last!) this past week thanks to Foley, Hastert and John "SHUMP DIMKUS" Shimkus. All the details are posted in the events section. Bring your checkbooks and help maintain the momentum. Victory is within his reach with everyone's help. Senator Durbin will be hosting ... hopefully with $$$$ from the DNC ?!?!?
I know ...I'm just dreaming improbable thoughts.

Congressional Visit in Washington DC during the Steelworker National Rapid Response Conference with Congressman John Shimkus, from the Illinois 19th Congressional District. The meeting was held on June 21st in his congressional office.
Seven Steelworker Members from Sub District 2 attended the meeting. Local 1899 (2 members), Local 1063 (4 members) and Local 9189 (1 member).

The first issues we discussed was the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA);

A Danny Stover supporter gets to visit with Senator Barak Obama in Washington and asks if he will make an appearance with Stover - Obama says yes, but will he? This supporter also has a meeting with U.S. Representative Il-19 John Shimkus. How did this meeting go? ... not well.

A member of our group, Downstate Democrats for Change, was a Barak Obama supporter during his primary race. She got to meet Obama as she worked hard in Madison County, long before the citizens of Illinois, let alone the citizens of the U.S., even knew who he was. When She got to meet with Senator Obama last week, she asked him if he remembered her and he said, yes, you were with me from the very beginning. This loyal supporter of Stover's told Obama about the struggles that Danny was having with name recognition and asked if he would please make an appearance with Stover in the district ... his answer was, yes.

David vs. Goliath - This describes the challenge that Danny Stover, Democrat candidate for House of Representatives in Illinois District 19, is facing in Southern Illinois. Incumbent John "rubber stamp" Shimkus has a nearly $2M war chest, primarily from PACs, Corporations and wealthy individuals, where as Dan Stover has raised @$135,000, virtually all from small individual donations.

Danny Stover is a candidate that is the epitome of the grass root progressive movement. His campaign has taken him directly to the people with no help from Corporations, PACs or the DCCC. Danny started working diligently after announcing his candidacy in December of 2005 to get his message (www.stoverforcongress.us) to constituents face to face. His schedule has been filled with town meetings, union events, parades, festivals, local Democrat groups, homecomings and County Democrat meetings.
